Getting The Support During Divorce That You Need

For all of the advancements humankind has made in medicine, technology, psychology, entertainment, and life in general, humanity itself is still very young and fragile.  It has been said that there are three major changes that can cause added stress and emotional trauma:

  • A death in the family
  • A major move (beyond city or county limits)
  • A Divorce

Of these, most people will experience two, a major move and a divorce, at the same time.  More than forty percent of the couples who claim to be married when filing taxes have gone their separate ways by the following year.  Sadly, this percentage is only expected to rise. It is a staggering fact to be faced with for any newly wed pair.

You often hear of support groups for those battling addictions, depression, and loss.  It is far and few between to hear very much about a divorce support group.  Ironically, many of the people who are mired in depression and addictions are going through, or recently ended a divorce.  Would specialized support for this ongoing tragedy further benefit them on their way to recovery?  The answer is most likely.

1-800-DIVORCE SUPPORT

One of the most difficult hurdles for anyone going through a divorce to overcome is the feeling of loneliness. You suddenly find yourself alienated from a world that still prefers the “Ward and June Cleaver” type of households.  Regardless of all the changes in the world that have occurred, alternative families of any kind are like Cinderella sleeping in the fireplace; she gets to live in the house, but not really.

A divorce support group may seem a little daunting at first; opening up to a group of strangers and sharing your personal life.  But there is more happening than just people hashing out their frustrations.  You may be able to learn pitfalls to avoid in your own situation, as well as who to call and who to avoid for legal representation. You may also find yourself making a few friends, and that is the best kind of divorce support you can have.

If actually going to a meeting is too big of a step for you, consider perhaps joining an online divorce support group.  You can exchange emails, read postings on message boards, skim through legal information all at your own pace. There is also the opportunity to connect with a larger group of people all over the country.
